If the indicating needle for your MT3809G or MT3810G metal tube variable area meter is either off the reference mark (Ref) on the scale, or has completely shifted off the scale, you may need to remove the indicator cover to re-zero and adjust the indicating needle. The indicating needle may be off if the meter received a sudden shock from an outside source (during shipping, for example), but adjusting the indicating needle is easily corrected.
To re-zero the indicating needle:

Identify which type of indicator is on your meter – General Purpose, Intrinsically Safe, or Explosion Proof.
- Remove the housing cover to access the indicating needle.

General Purpose (GP) Housing Indicator Covers
Directions to Remove & Reinstall the GP Housing Cover and Adjust the Pointer
Using a flat blade screwdriver with a 1/8” blade, hold the pointer and turn the screw to align with the “R” on the scale. It may take a few adjustments to get the pointer on the “R”.

Directions to Remove & Reinstall the IS Housing Cover, Adjust Alarms and the Pointer
Using a flat blade screwdriver with a 1/8” blade, hold the red alarm pointer and turn the screw to align with the “R” on the scale. It may take a few adjustments to get the pointer on the “R”.

Explosion Proof (XP) Housing Indicator Covers
Directions to Remove & Reinstall the XP Housing Cover, Adjust Alarms and the Pointer
Using a flat blade screwdriver with a 1/8” blade, hold the red alarm pointer and turn the screw counterclockwise to loosen the pointer, slide it to the desired position on the scale and tighten screw.
